Simon Fraser University (Vancouver Campus)

Ornate heritage buildings in Vancouver’s bustling downtown house a second SFU campus, where professional graduate degrees in fields such as business, gerontology and urban studies, are producing alumni who are bettering our world. A new state-of-the-art home home for SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts on the former Woodward’s site will feature three theatres, a world art studio, a cinema and an art gallery.

Ranked by respected national surveys as one of Canada’s top three comprehensive universities for almost 20 years, Simon Fraser University is named after a famous explorer and known for its pioneering spirit.

From the moment we connect with prospective students, until they cross Convocation Mall to collect their degrees, we help them chart their own unique course through numerous interdisciplinary academic programs.

Spanning many disciplines in eight faculties, SFU offers more than 100 undergraduate major and joint major programs and more than 45 graduate offerings. Mentored by faculty acclaimed for their research and teaching abilities and coached by dedicated advisors and employers in our work integrated learning program, our more than 100,000 graduates enjoy limitless career opportunities.

Academic Options

SFU helps new, returning, graduate, distance education and mature students grasp the extent to which combining vast academic and co-op options can help them shape their future and change our world.

For example, dual and double degrees enable students to obtain two degrees from different institutions at home and abroad. Exchange programs and field schools encourage international and domestic students to share and experience each other’s worlds. Night and weekend programs allow full-time workers with families to fulfill their higher education dreams.

Innovative interdisciplinary degree programs such as our Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics and Master of Science in Population and Public Health prepare students to tackle and solve some of the world’s most pressing problems. Internationally celebrated researchers, inspiring educators and accomplished alumni, serve as role models and mentors.

Student Life

Campus housing designed to meet the needs of first- and second-year students and those with families makes Burnaby Mountain an inspirational place to live and study. Residence towers offer 727 fully furnished single rooms, each with its own fridge and high speed Internet connection, and a communal dining room with a meal plan.

Learning, community life and personal growth flourish in a housing environment where students can easily access programs and services supporting their emotional, physical and psychological development.

Opportunities abound for students to get as immersed in their campus life as their studies. The Simon Fraser Student Society funds nearly 100 clubs catering to endless interests. Numerous events such as Terry Fox Day, Clubs week and Gung Haggis Fat Choy foster multicultural ties and connect people from all walks of life.

The Highland pub is a popular spot where faculty, students and staff hang out and cross paths in a relaxed setting. People on and off campus regularly converge at SFU Theatre to catch free, cutting-edge noon-hour theatrical, musical and dance performances hosted by SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts.

SFU ULife is a great online meeting spot where students can stay up to date on all that life has to offer at SFU.

Sports and studies often go hand in hand at SFU. Since its birth more than 40 years ago the university has produced numerous athletes known as much for netting grade point averages above 3.0 as varsity championships.

A wide array of varsity and intramural sports activities and a spacious fitness centre with floor-to-ceiling window views of the campus nurture healthy competition, lifelong friendships and healthy living at SFU.

Students can compete in their favourite sport as an SFU Clan athlete, take a ringside seat at their favourite game, work out on their favourite piece of gym equipment, or do all three. Our motto in Recreation and Athletics is: “Try something new. Enhance your skills. Have fun. Live an active life!”
