style="text-align:">Brandon University’s mission is to shape the whole person and enable students to make a positive difference as citizens and leaders. In a welcoming and supportive setting, the University emphasizes research, scholarship, critical thinking, performance, artistic creation, communication and participation, as a means of imparting value and meaning to society and contributing to the public good. The University nurtures and develops excellence in its programs, attracts an outstanding faculty, defends academic freedom, preserves knowledge, and sustains a scholarly community where cultural differences are valued. The University strives to complement its primary mission of teaching and research by sharing the expertise of its staff, its information resources, and its facilities with the greater community.

Student Residences

Studies at many universities and colleges have clearly shown that students who live in residence receive a tremendous advantage over those who live in off-campus apartments or basement suites. A student’s education is enhanced by living in residence. Residence students have greater social confidence, establish more relationships with senior students, faculty and staff, tend to complete their education, get better marks, and become more actively involved with social and educational extra-curricular activities. To assist BU residence students with their academic needs, an Academic Residence Assistant (ARA) is employed by the Residence Office.

Res@BU offers the ultimate in convenience and services:

Fully furnished, well-equipped rooms

Balanced diet through our meal plan

No utilities to pay, easy to budget costs

Organized social, athletic, & educational events

Weight rooms in McMaster & Darrach Halls

Residence Hall games room/ TV lounges

Residence Hall study rooms

Music practice room with piano

Laundry facilities

Internet, cable, fridge & TV rentals

Residence parking available

Enthusiastic Residence Assistants & Council Member.

Our residence complex is composed of three residence buildings joined by glass enclosed walkways to the Main Dining Room, the Brodie Science Building, <a

You may choose to live on an “Academic Floor” (very quiet), a “Quiet Floor” (fairly quiet during the daytime, very quiet at night), or a “Regular Activity Floor” (just don’t bother your neighbors!)

There’s much more to residence than convenience and economy: it’s an incredible opportunity to meet hundreds of new people, participate in a myriad of new activities, develop valuable new skills and experience new, exciting things: all while enjoying campus life in a way not available to non-residents.

Student Services

In order to address the unique needs of students, Student Services assists students in their intellectual, vocational, personal and social development.Various services such as counselling and learning skills are made available to students requiring assistance.

The Academic Skills Centre offers a broad range of academic support services to assist students. The Centre’s primary goal is to help students become more efficient learners, equipped with greater confidence, motivation and skill. Students are encouraged to access the Centre’s services through either individual appointments designed to address specific learning issues or group workshops that deal with some of the most common learning issues facing students.

The Academic Skills centre offers assistance through three related offices:

<a

They don’t know how to select their focus from among the wide variety of options. Other students wonder where a given major may lead. They wonder what their future will be like if they choose a particular path.

Our counsellors work with career-concerned students using a wide variety of resources. Our excellent stocked Career Resource Centre has all the information students need to make sound career decisions.

The At Brandon University, you will find an extensive range of facilities and services to help your intellectual, vocational, personal and social development. A successful university education depends on far more than a well-stocked library. Some of the student organizations that you can get involved in include:

Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship

Brandon University Anthropological Society

Brandon University Computer Science Club

Brandon University Chinese Students’ and Scholars’ Association

Brandon University Politics Club

Brandon University Zoological Society

Disaster and Emergency Student Society

World University Service Canada

Brandon University Students’ Union.

Campus Recreation
<p

As a Christian university, we do this within a framework of faith in God, and with the conviction that faith makes a difference in how we understand our world.

CMU was chartered by the Province of Manitoba in 1998. Its first classes were held in 2000-01. It is a member of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada.

CMU is officially supported by Mennonite Church Canada and the Mennonite Brethren Church of Manitoba.

History

Canadian Mennonite University is the result of the amalgamation of three colleges: Mennonite Brethren Bible College/Concord College (est. 1944); Canadian Mennonite Bible College (est. 1947); and Menno Simons College (est. 1989).

The origins of CMU go back to the early 1990s when people from the business community and from four Mennonite colleges in Manitoba—CMBC, Concord College, Steinbach Bible College and Menno Simons College—met to talk about inter-Mennonite co-operation in higher education. This led to formal discussions among the colleges, beginning in 1995. Steinbach Bible College withdrew from the process in 1996.

In August, 1998, the government of Manitoba proclaimed the charter for the creation of a university-level, degree-granting federation of Mennonite colleges. On November 18, 1998, the three colleges signed a Memorandum of Agreement, signifying final approval for the creation of the federation. On May 4th, 1999, the agreement to purchase 500 Shaftesbury was concluded. The Mennonite College Federation began offering its new, jointly sponsored academic programs in September, 1999. By September, 2000, CMBC and Concord College located together on a common campus at 500/600 Shaftesbury Boulevard. (Menno Simons College remained in downtown Winnipeg as CMU’s campus at the University of Winnipeg.) In October, 2008, CMU became a member of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada.

Residential Life

Many CMU students choose to live in residence, recognizing that the learning that happens from living together can be an important part of the educational experience. The residential community is a place to develop healthy relationships, find support when the way is difficult, and hold each other accountable for the choices that are made. Consider the opportunity to live on campus and be part of the thriving CMU community. There are three options on CMU’s main campus with a variety of different styles of accommodations.

Student Life

Spiritual life—following Christ in daily life and growing more deeply as believers—is important at CMU. We encourage this in a variety of formal and informal ways at the university. The formal ways include chapel, fellowship groups, prayer times and through spiritual direction.

<a

The athletics program is committed to helping you develop excellence within the context of highly competitive intercollegiate sports, while at the same time helping you to balance yourself spiritually, physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially. The CMU Blazers have an established history of success in the Manitoba Colleges Athletics Conference.

Want to see and learn more about Canadian Mennonite University? Take a <a

The various cultural groups present at the College learn, work and play together. They therefore contribute not only to Canada’s diversity, but they participate in the linguistic duality and the French influence across the country.

History

The Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface is the oldest university in Western Canada. Although it was incorporated in 1871 when the province of Manitoba was born, its origins can be traced back to 1818, when Bishop Norbert Provencher first opened a school for boys in the Red River Colony. In 1877, the Collège de Saint-Boniface, together with Manitoba College and St. John’s College, founded the University of Manitoba. During its first 150 years, the Collège was managed by the Catholic clergy, notably the Jesuit Fathers from 1885 to 1967. It has occupied its present location in the heart of Old Saint-Boniface, in central Winnipeg, since 1922.

Student Housing

CUSB owns a practical and affordable student residence close to the campus, where full-time CUSB students can live in a study-friendly, pleasant and multicultural environment. Our residence is a stone’s throw away from CUSB and is within walking distance of supermarkets and other commercial services in Saint-Boniface. Living in residence can be one of the most rewarding experiences of a student’s life.

The residence includes studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, all of which contain a kitchen with refrigerator and stove, as well as a bathroom. One and two-bedroom apartments also include a living room. Each apartment is furnished with all the essentials: kitchen table and chairs, sofa, armchair, desk, bed and dresser. Laundry facilities are located on each floor of the residence.

Student Centre

The Student Centre at CUSB is a place to study, relax, get a bite to eat, meet friends and get involved in various cultural activities. It is also home to the Café Rencontre cafeteria, an Internet café, game tables, a performance stage and CBAU, the campus radio station. The Student Centre was designed for taking time out in good company. Come and join us “where the action is”!

Campus Ministry

Campus ministry, La Pastorale, understands the value of faith within the mosaic of the different cultures which coexist in the CUSB community. It offers spiritual assistance and guidance as well as counselling services. La Source, located beside the office of La Pastorale, is a place for students who wish to meet others in a spirit of fraternity. Early in each academic year, a team organizes various projects based on need and interest, such as: Retreats, Activity nights, Bible discussion and weekly liturgy.

The campus ministry office supports the Development & Peace Committee. Their goal is to raise awareness within the CUSB community of issues related to the imbalance between the world’s wealthiest countries and those that are still developing, which leads to the impoverishment of peoples. The committee organizes activities to promote intercultural dialogue among students.

Cultural Activities

CUSB provides its students with the human, financial and technical resources they need to carry out special cultural projects. The following are just a few of the many cultural activities you can take part in at CUSB:

Chiens de Soleil theatre company

House band

Concert series

Lectures, discussions, workshops, forums, etc.

CBAU, the university radio station (also online at Sporting activities offer the whole academic community of leisure time that can meet the interests and needs of all. The coordination of different programs (intramural, intercollegiate and independent [free activities]) offers opportunities for competition and entertainment and can meet all tastes. The Department of Athletics invites you to examine its facilities, equipment and programs available to the academic community for its development and well-being and to enjoy freely. The Sports Department is actively involved in organizing some special activities such as day care, camp outdoors, Faculty of Education, Sporama the evening sports awards, tournaments Invitational (volleyball and badminton), sleigh rides, bowling parties, etc.
<p

The University of Manitoba is also home to a wide range of research centres and institutes, and Smartpark Research and Technology Park, a community of innovators that forges collaborations between university and industry.

History

The University of Manitoba is Western Canada’s first university, founded on February 28, 1877 just seven years after the province of Manitoba and only four years after the City of Winnipeg.

At the time, Manitoba was a small postage stamp province, Winnipeg was hardly more than a town and the University of Manitoba was a university in name only, created to confer degrees on students graduating from its three founding colleges – St. Boniface College, St. John’s College, and Manitoba College.

The University of Manitoba’s student population has continued to grow in diversity with close to 10 per cent of the population now composed of International Students, allowing the University of Manitoba to say it truly is part of the global community.

In 1999 the university launched Smartpark, a 100-acre research and technology park at the University of Manitoba’s Fort Garry Campus. The park now hosts over 1,000 employees, many who are co-op students and graduates of the university. Smartpark serves as a bridge between basic research and industry, facilitating collaboration between the university and more than 30 research-oriented companies now residing in the park.

Building on Strengths: Campaign for the University of Manitoba, completed in 2004, raised $237 million to bolster student supports at the university and has had a tangible impact on the campus, helping create the Engineering and Information Technology Centre and supporting redevelopment of buildings across the campus.

And we can expect the face of the University of Manitoba to change dramatically over the next few years thanks to two significant events. In 2007 the university acquired the 120-acre Southwood Golf Course property directly adjacent to the Fort Garry Campus. The new land will provide the university with room to grow in the future and will help it create a true university community with increased housing for students and faculty.

Student Life

The University of Manitoba understands that your education goes beyond the classroom, that’s why you’ll have the chance to be more than just a student here.

At the U of M you have the opportunity to be a leader on a student committee, a journalist for the student-run Manitoban newspaper, a performer at the Black Hole Theatre Company, a DJ for the campus radio station, a spirited fan at a Bisons sports game, or a youth leader at a summer Mini-U camp. With over 100 student organizations, clubs, and recreational activities to choose from the University of Manitoba has something to offer you!

Student Housing

Living in Rez is a great way to experience the U of M. There’s lots to do when you need a break. Plenty of quiet places to go when you have to study. And wherever you live, you’ll be steps away from all your classes (hit that snooze button one more time!). You can choose the residence that matches your interests and needs so you’ll have a lot in common with your neighbours. Fun stuff, serious times, and great friends. You’ll find it all living in Rez…plus you won’t ever have to worry about what’s for dinner!

You’ll ease into university life in no time. You’ll know your way around campus and see lots of familiar faces. For now, feel free to nose around the place and take a peek at life in residence.

Each year, over 1,200 students get the full benefit of the university experience by living in residence. Check out some Cool Rooms in Rez…….<a

But wherever you live, you can expect these standard features:

furnished rooms (includes bed, desk, chair, and bookshelf)

meal plans

study space

lounges with TVs and DVD players

in-house laundry facilities

storage space for luggage and personal effects

rooms wired for telephone

free high-speed Internet

reserved parking (available through Parking Services).

Sport and Active Living

Bison Sport and Active Living (BSAL) within the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management compliments the academic programs of the University by providing opportunities for personal development and balance in academic and community life, outreach with respect to community access to wellness programs and professional development through practical training opportunities. style="text-align:">The University of Winnipeg is a dynamic campus in transition. They are becoming the downtown hub that connects people from diverse cultures and nurtures global citizens. And they offer high-quality undergraduate and graduate programs.

The University of Winnipeg is one of Canada’s leading post-secondary institutions. Consistently ranked in the Top-10 in the country on an annual basis by both Maclean’s magazine and The Globe & Mail newspaper, the University of Winnipeg is a leader in academic excellence, Aboriginal education, environmental studies & sustainability, and theatre & the arts. The University of Winnipeg is committed to improving access to post-secondary education for all individuals, especially those people from non-traditional communities, and has created an innovative Opportunity Fund to assist students who are under-represented to attend UWinnipeg.

UWinnipeg Scholarships

Each year the University distributes 1.5 million dollars to new and returning students. Entrance scholarships range in value from $100 – $24,000 each. The University of Winnipeg guarantees scholarships to students with an entrance average of 80 per cent or higher. Nearly one-half of all entrants receive an award.

Student Research Opportunities

UWinnipeg offers unique research opportunities to undergraduates—many participate directly in research, either on their own or in close collaboration with faculty, a privilege usually reserved for graduate students at larger institutions. Often these students are listed as co-authors on publications and conference presentations. Departments at UWinnipeg employ undergraduate students as markers, lab demonstrators, and tutors. Hired routinely to assist professors with research, students gain practical experience, broadening their learning experience immensely.

Student Supports

The Aboriginal Student Services Centre represents all First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students. Elders, Aboriginal Student Advisors, and Liaison officers are all available on-site for mentorship, academic and social support, and counselling. A new 3,000 square foot facility was created for the ASSC in Fall 2004. The new centre is the University’s focal point for culturally relevant Aboriginal programming including interactions with Elders, healing circles, and programs that encourage students to celebrate their identity.

The Nathan Micay Disability Resource Centre offers adaptive equipment and services for students with special needs or disabilities

Free career counselling for students and alumni (nominal fee for optional Career Interest Testing)

On-site daycare centre

Free tutoring in writing, math, chemistry, physics, and computer skills

Free internet access for all students.

Student Housing

The University of Winnipeg offers several student residence options: the family-like environment of our beautifully renovated student houses, single dorm-style accommodation on student-only floors, furnished/unfurnished bachelor and one-bedroom suites in the Lions Manor senior citizens’ housing complex; single dorms, double-dorms and family housing at McFeetors Hall: Great-West Life Student Residence. All these options are close to campus, with many opportunities to participate in residence events, as well as to get involved in the larger community.

UWinnipeg student residences are close to the campus and offer several options to fit your housing needs. UWinnipeg opened McFeetors Hall: Great-West Life Student Residence in the the Fall of 2009 located on the new Furby/Langside Campus.

Balmoral and Spence Houses are located within 5 minutes from campus. These houses are beautifully refurbished and provide students with accommodations that feel much more like a home than a dorm. Lions Manor Dorm Rooms are located within a 10-minute walk from campus. They offer a unique student housing option.

Lions Manor Furnished Bachelor Suites are a new addition to University of Winnipeg’s student housing which offer students extra space.Lions Manor Unfurnished Bachelor Suites are also available. This allows students the option to furnish their suite to their own tastes. Lastly there is Lions Manor Unfurnished One Bedroom Suites which give students their own apartment with a separate bedroom in Lions Manor.

Community Learning

The University of Winnipeg is dissolving the line between our campus and our community.

The school is located in downtown Winnipeg in one of the most diverse communities in Canada. We believe it is critically important and to reach out and partner with our neighbours so that together, we can create a vibrant, reflective and relevant learning environment.

We organize inner-city summer eco-camps, mentor grade school and high school students in our labs, share our state-of- the-art fitness facility with nearby office workers and residents, and offer free public lectures, conferences, workshops and computer access, among other things.

We are working with inner-city schools to close the graduation gap through programs like our Eco-Kids on campus. One grade six class prepared this 4 minute video, A Tap on the Shoulder, about their experience.

A Community Learning Partnership model has evolved as a direct result of our community partnerships and new programs and services are now part of the fabric of campus life at UWinnipeg.

Sports

The University of Winnipeg has both men’s and women’s volleyball and basketball teams—the Wesmen. Combined, the Wesmen teams have won more championships than any other university in Canada.

Arts and Culture

Gallery 1C03 has an exciting season lined up featuring exhibitions, artist talks, panel discussions, screenings, and more. We’ll be updating this website and our blog regularly, so please look around and make plans to join us soon!

Gallery 1C03 is a public, non-profit art gallery that opened at The University of Winnipeg during the 1986 – 1987 academic year. Our purpose is to provide the campus community, and our civic community at large, with opportunities to discover and contemplate visual and media arts in its many forms. Over the years, we have hosted over 70 exhibitions and we have welcomed over 100,000 visitors.

Our exhibitions reinforce the educational mandate of the University by linking to curricula in many disciplines, and by expanding the perspectives of our student body, faculty, and staff. Thus, we aim to highlight the value of art and culture as part of a well-rounded education, and to communicate it as an important point of interest in the cultivation of a passion for life-long learning. We show work in a variety of media that deals with questions concerning history, politics, technology, gender, sexuality, and ethnicity, among many other issues.

Virtuosi Concerts Inc. (VCI) is Winnipeg’s premier recital and chamber music series. Based out of Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall at The University of Winnipeg, Virtuosi Concerts takes pride in being able to provide 12 concerts of excellence as well as a spring festival each year to the Winnipeg community. For the last 10 years, Virtuosi Festivals has invited Canadian artists to tackle the entire oeuvre of a composers’ work. This “festival formula” has typically featured complete cycles of works in a genre, by the greatest composers, performed by leading musicians.

In addition, VCI is proud to co-present Skywalk Concerts & Lectures at the new Millennium Library, with 20 concerts and 20 lectures annually. Since 1990, we have produced over 550 events serving more than 30,000 patrons, all for free admission. The concerts typically feature world music, jazz, folk and classical as well. This series is a showcase opportunity exclusively for Manitoba artists.
<p
