Université de Moncton is Canada’s largest French-language university outside Québec. The university’s three campuses are located in New Brunswick’s francophone regions at Edmundston, Shippagan and Moncton.

Université de Moncton offers 160 study programs, including 45 at the master’s degree level and four at the doctorate level. Fields of study include administration, arts, education, engineering, forestry, law, nursing, nutrition, psychology, sciences, social work, etc. More than 35 research centers, chairs, and institutes have been established over the years.

The student population originates mainly from New Brunswick but also from almost all countries of the Francophonie internationale. The university benefits from many exchange programs and institutional agreements supporting student mobility at the international level. Numerous international internships are made available to students every year. Université de Moncton is one of the few francophone universities in Canada that offer international students the opportunity to work and study at the masters level.

Over 6,200 students are enrolled at Université de Moncton. They benefit from a personalized teaching style with quality that can only be provided in a medium-sized university. With one of the lowest faculty-student ratios in the country, exchanges between the professors and students and the overall quality of learning are enhanced.

Campus de Shippagan plays a leading role in training university north-eastern New Brunswick. More than 50 programs of the University of Moncton can be launched on our campus that has the wind in its sails and is still growing. It is also possible to complete bachelor’s degrees in nursing, information management and integrated coastal zone.

The many clubs and associations give you the opportunity to meet friends who share your interests in fields as diverse as environment, student politics and chess.

Arts and Culture

Culturally, Campus de Shippagan favors regional artists by giving them a prominent place on campus. Thus, the academic community is duly privileged to hear, see or read the works of these local artists through the following activities:

  • Midi-music: Regularly, artists are invited to perform on stage at the campus cafeteria. These performances are usually held from 11:30 to 12:45. Most artists from the region. Furthermore, it is the perfect opportunity for students who have talent to the stage experience. The midi-music can be varied by providing presentations in music, song, poetry, theater, etc. Admission is free.
  • Exhibitions: Regularly, artists are invited to exhibit their works at the gallery, The Gateway Campus de Shippagan. The particularity of this gallery is that it is actually a bridge joining two buildings. Therefore, while going to classes a student will have the opportunity to see works of art. These exhibitions allow both local artists to showcase their work and the academic community to discover the talents of the region. They are open to all people with free admission. At the end of the event, with the consent of the artist, the exhibition will be moved to the library for a period of a month.
  • House of Culture: The House of Culture is an non-profit working actively in the arts and culture. The organization allows people, in general, including the academic community, to learn about the different art forms through workshops, performances and other cultural activities. The offices of the House of Culture are located on campus which allows them to be attentive to the needs of students from UMCS in cultural activities and regularly work in collaboration with the socio-cultural Services Campus de Shippagan.

Sports and Recreation

Campus de Shippagan aims to educate the community on healthy lifestyles through its affiliation with the Movement Acadian communities in health in New Brunswick. A sports pavilion of the most modern, a regional pool located on the campus since 2008-2009, a range of sports and health service (link to: Health site) focuses on prevention will allow the UMCS d attain this goal.

Shippagan and the area offers great places to practice wind sports throughout the year. During the plank or “kite” season, you will meet more and more people across Canada in Shippagan. During the winter, the shallow waters become completely frozen for miles around and provide a playground for paraskieurs of all levels. The major festival of the winds and the Ice Carnival Shippagan invites people to sample the delights of the sea and winter by providing a wide variety of activities.

Students who prefer the competition can participate in training camps Gust, teams representing the campus at indoor soccer (female and male) and hockey (male and female) and Ultimate Frisbee (Mixed). If you move into a competitive sport in which the program is not available on campus, just inquire with Sport Services to discuss opportunities available to you.

The Energy Studio located in the Health Pavilion is a sports training studio which offered quality services. A team of qualified coaches are in place to meet customer needs in terms of formatting, maintenance or weight loss, rehabilitation and physical rehabilitation, strengthening and muscle definition, endurance and of education in nutrition and fitness. Students of the UMCS have free access at the Studio Power Health. The UMCS regular staff can enjoy a reduced rate.
