The campus of The University of Western Ontario is located in London, a thriving Ontario centre of more than 352,000 that combines the facilities of big-city living with the comforts of a small-town community. The campus itself offers numerous conveniences right within its gates. From any of the residences, you’re only a short walk to a bank, convenience stores, medical clinic, pharmacy, gyms, a pool and other recreational facilities, a bookstore, restaurants, a post office, films, live theatre, two art galleries, and a wide variety of student services.

Student Housing

Western’s housing services has nine student residences. If requested, rooms are guaranteed for first year students in entering an undergraduate program. Residences at The University of Western Ontario are some of the best in the country. In fact, the Globe and Mail’s student satisfaction survey placed Western’s residences number one for eight consecutive years!

Two styles of residence are offered at Western. Our traditional-style residences (Delaware Hall, Medway-Sydenham Hall, Perth Hall, and Saugeen-Maitland Halls) offer single and double rooms with shared common washrooms on each floor. Traditional-style residences enable you to easily get acquainted and develop a strong sense of belonging with your floor community. For many students, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to room a with similar-minded student, creating bonds that last a lifetime! Our suite-style residences (Alumni House, Elgin Hall, Essex Hall, London Hall) offer single rooms with shared cooking facilities, semi-private washrooms, and a common living area. Suite-style residences are geared toward more independent living, where you will look after more of your own domestic responsibilities, including the option to cook some of your own meals.

Centre for New Students

The Centre for New Students (CFNS) provides programs to facilitate the successful transition to Western from high school, college or another university or a workplace. They offer engaging programs that inspire students in personal growth. Through CFNS there are oppotunities for enrichment in leadership development and international experiences.

Student Government

The University Students’ Council is the most comprehensive student government in Canada. Its goal is to facilitate social programming, provide political advocacy, and operate services that are assets to a student’s daily needs. Clubs and Groups

With over 12,000 members belonging to more than 150 clubs, the USC Clubs System is the easiest way for Western students to get involved at university. Each USC Club has a specific niche in our campus community. Whatever your interest may be, there will most likely be a club there to satisfy you. If there isn’t, any undergraduate student at UWO can apply to the Clubs Policy Committee for ratification of a new club.

Intramural Sports

Taking part in Intramural Sports is a great way to get involved in University life at Western. Whether you like to participate at the super, competitive, or recreational level, we offer a full range of activities that will peak your interest. Participants can enjoy a fun, equitable, and safe playing environment! Meet new people, enjoy friendly competition, and learn new skills in our facilities around campus. And, who doesn’t want to challenge for the right to don “The Purple Shirt”, an Intramural Champion tradition!

Information Technology Services (ITS)

Information Technology Services (ITS) at Western makes using computers both on and off campus easy, and can help fix problems you may have. Services include a free personal computer account for all Western students, the availability of dial-up or high-speed remote access, and seven central campus general-purpose computer labs for your use. Keeping up with friends from home through email is easy. Visit the ITS Support Centre on the second floor of the Natural Sciences Centre.
