The University of Ottawa is one of the national capital’s largest employers. With approximately 4,000 staff and more than 36,000 full and part-time students, the University generates over $1 billion annually for the local economy.

Since 1848 the University of Ottawa has been Canada’s university. Located in the heart of the nation’s capital, the University has emerged as a vibrant “centre of learning”, with a total population including students, teaching and support staff – of 40,000. The largest bilingual university in North America, the University is a major player in the cultural and economic development of the National Capital Region.

Campus Housing

Approximately 2,850 University of Ottawa students have the privilege of living on campus in an engaging and intellectually stimulating multicultural environment. All located on our main downtown campus, our residences are within walking distance of classrooms, labs, libraries, cafeterias and food outlets, sports complexes and University services. The University is located five minutes away from the ByWard Market and downtown Ottawa.

First-time in-coming students normally reside in one of our four conventional residences offering furnished single and double rooms, telephone and free access to the Internet, common lounges, kitchens, bathrooms and laundry facilities on all floors.

Housing is guaranteed to candidates admitted before June 2007 who requested it on their application for admission. The information required to reserve a place will be sent with the admission offer. Convenient meal plans are available to all students.

University Life

The University of Ottawa’s students participate in more than 100 student clubs and associations on campus. The Student Federation of the University of Ottawa along with Community Life Services also offer a variety of activities, concerts and events. In addition, the games of our varsity sports teams under the Gee-Gees banner are always well attended. Join the many fans of our interuniversity athletes among our student community.

Sports and physical activities are open to all at uOttawa. With two sports complexes  the most recent being the largest and most modern complex in Eastern Ontario  our student population is encouraged to live a balanced lifestyle. Facilities include two ice surfaces, three gymnasiums, a 50-metre pool equipped with diving tower, a fitness centre, squash and racquetball courts, a multi-sports field, a multi-purpose sports room, a dance studio, a martial arts room, a sports medicine centre and a rehabilitation centre.
